After crossing the North Sea and traversing the Dutch canals the Dutch and English OGA fleets have arrived in Hellevoetsluis for the start of the OGA20 Netherlands OGA Anniversary celebrations. On 1 August several members of the Dutch and English fleets met for the ‘pre-Tour’ party in warm sunshine, followed by torrential rain, at Wemeldinge. They then moved on to Willemstad along the Heringvliet to Hellevoetsluis for registration and official welcome to the NL20 Tour on Friday 2 August.
‘Lahloo’ reported “about 1 metre clearance under Heringvlietbrug”, looking up to take a video as she passed beneath the bridge. Due to the heat, several skippers and crews took a break during the passage for a swim and sailed with makeshift cockpit covers for shade.
‘Onward of Ito’ departed Greenwich at 1000 hrs Thursday 31 July heading for Hellevoetsluis. Following an unplanned stop in Brightlingsea with fuel/engine issues she arrived to join the fleet on Sunday 4 August.
